A Flow of Ideas...

Edmondson Residence
Water was the inspirational jumping off point for this project located in Fishers, Indiana. Many collaborative discussions took place regarding placement of the house and even adaptation of the architecture to address the client's desire to be totally enveloped by the sound of running water.

Much thought was given the development of a screened-in-porch with an all-encompassing view of a water feature. Cut and fill from the basement and proposed pool allowed for the creation of mounds increasing much needed privacy as well as the development of a large dramatic fall transitioning into a simple babbling brook.

A natural bog system, and use of fish and aquatic plants help keep the water clear and in natural balance. Use of a softer, more natural planting palette, such as Japanese blood Grass, Russian Sage, and Purple Cone flower solidifies the feeling of tranquility.

The introduction of a pool always begs the question, "what do we do with the fill soil?" By not hauling off on-site soil, we were able to save the client money, and develop this cascading water feature that flows towards a casual seating area adjacent to the pool. Monet would be happy with out use of water lilies, iris, and ornamental grasses.

A Grand Entrance...

Given the wooded setting and old-world architecture, this home needed a subtle, more naturalistic entrance. Natural rustic stone was a must. Hosta, Flowering Dogwood and the un-manicured use of Myrtle trailing over the wall, completes the feeling of pastoral landscape.

Creating a dramatic and inviting entrance to any home or commercial property is typically achieved through the use of good landscape design. Seasonal plantings, lighting, large gracious walkways and even stately columns or signage not only create a welcoming environment, but can also dramatically increase resale value of a home. Creating an ambiance and a distinct entrance design is all about establishing a physical language.

A Little Something...

Great design does not have to be an elaborate, formal garden. It can be a thoughtful, yet well coordinated planting scheme that enhances the nature of your architecture. We infused this rustic log cabin with a layering of perennial color, shrub roses, and foliage texture through the use of Hosta and Coral Bells.

A change in planting palette was necessary when nearing the shade of the existing woods. Boxwood, Hosta and Astilbe brighten the space with mid summer flowering and foliage texture in this small space.

Timeless beauty can be as simple as a wall-mounted fountain engulfed by a flowering vine. Be bold, and allow nature to soften the architecture of any blank wall, and you'll be rewarded with fragrant smell of flowers and the sound of trickling water. A wall trellis is very low maintenance, and recalls traditional style without taking up much space in the garden.

Middle Ground...

A typical subdivision lot can still have huge around of character. It's a blank canvas waiting to be programmed based upon your lifestyle. Pools, simple seating areas, perennials borders, or even a well-planned vegetable garden can make turn your yard into a perpetual oasis.

Imagine relaxing with friends on a cool Fall evening by the light of your outdoor fireplace while the kids enjoy an evening dip in the pool. A simple, yet elegant trellis mimics the comforting sensation of overhanging branches in a forest grove. What could be more enjoyable?

Why go to a resort and spend thousands of dollars every year when you can enjoy a bit of the spa environment every day in your back yard? Relaxing by the pool can be as simple as grabbing an ice cold drink, donning your swim suit and stepping into this well designed lounging space.

Is cooking and grilling your hobby? Can't you hear the sizzle of the grill as friends lounge by the outdoor fireplace? What better environment to show off your culinary skills than under the welcoming shade of this trellis in the great outdoors?

Why spend time mowing that boring lawn when you can enjoy a peaceful walk to your backyard seating area? Wow your guest with drifts of Japanese Blood grass, Silvery Sunproof Liriope and Purple Salvia. Mass planting perennials, grasses and other low maintenance plants is a perfect way to create a casual, care-free garden environment.

Innovative Ideas...

Ever been intrigued by the concept of a crop circle or inspired by an aerial view of man's intervention on the land? This alien inspired theme was our jumping off point for this truly innovative design. Grade changes were enhanced, creating two spiraling walls that then morphed into an implied crop circle pattern cut into the lawn.
A granite millstone fountain provides the perfect spot for the family dog to get a drink on a hot afternoon while also acting as a terminating feature of this graphic landscape gesture.
Bold swaths of perennials corrupt and punctuate the landscape with reckless abandon. Perennials co-mingle and create happy accident completing the contrived, well-planted appearance.
A fire pit nestled into the wood, of course requires a beautifully designed path. Red Dragon Persacaria, White Gooseneck, Hosta and Lungwort freely naturalize on either side of loosely placed stepping stones.
